What is an AWB and how to track an international shipment

AWB (Air Waybill) is a unique shipment number assigned by the courier service upon receipt of the cargo. With this number, you can see the entire journey of the parcel or documents: from pickup to delivery to the recipient.

What does the AWB number mean?

An air waybill is a transport document for air freight. Its number usually consists of 10 digits and is the key to the carrier's tracking system: DHL, FedEx, or UPS. One number corresponds to one shipment.

Where to find the number after shipping

  • On the receipt or sticker on the envelope left by the courier.
  • In the message from the SEMERO manager after the shipment is processed.
  • In the confirmation email from the carrier if the recipient's or sender's email was provided.

How to track a shipment

Enter the AWB number in the tracking form on the website — the "Check waybill number" button is available in the header of every page. The system will redirect the request to the carrier's tracking and show the current status.

Typical statuses and what they mean

Statuses are updated with a slight delay, so a gap of a few hours between events is normal and does not indicate a problem.

  • Shipment picked up — the cargo has been collected and registered in the system.
  • In transit — the shipment is moving between sorting hubs or is on a flight.
  • Customs clearance — the shipment is undergoing control; duration depends on the country and type of attachment.
  • Arrived at delivery facility — the cargo is in the recipient's city.
  • Delivered — the shipment has been handed over and signed for.
