How to send a passport abroad

A passport is a sensitive item: the possibility of shipping it depends on the origin country, destination country, and the rules of the specific carrier. The general process is the same as for other documents, but conditions must be verified for your specific route before shipping.

What the process looks like

  • Clarifying route conditions with a manager is the first, not the last, step.
  • Preparation: Make copies of pages for your own records, use a sturdy envelope to protect the document from bending and moisture.
  • Booking the shipment with accurate recipient data, including phone number and postal code.
  • Handing over to the courier and receiving an AWB number.
  • Tracking until delivery upon signature.

Important notice regarding restrictions

The shipping of passports and other identification documents is regulated by customs, postal, and visa rules. These rules vary by country and are subject to change, and each carrier—DHL, FedEx, UPS—has its own internal restrictions.

Therefore, we do not provide a general guarantee that a passport can be sent to any country. Conditions for each route are checked individually before booking.

How to reduce risks

  • Scan or copy all pages in advance.
  • Do not include unrelated items or valuables with the passport.
  • Verify that the recipient will be at the address and able to confirm their identity.
  • Consider shipment insurance if appropriate for the route.
